The Los Angeles Rams announced that they have re-signed linebacker Troy Reeder on a one-year contract. Reeder has spent four of his five NFL seasons with the Rams, joining the team as an undrafted free agent out of Delaware in 2019.

Last season, Reeder appeared in all 17 games for the Rams, starting six and finishing the year 23 tackles. He was a big part of the Rams’ defense in 2020 and 2021, helping the team on its run to the Super Bowl. In those two years he totaled 172 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, eight passes defended and two interceptions.

Following the 2021 season, Reeder would sign with the Los Angeles Chargers, but served only a minor role before returning to the Rams last year.

Reeder provides some solid depth for the Rams behind expected starters Christian Rozeboom and Ernest Jones. A solid, reliable veteran with plenty of experience, keeping Reeder likely allows the Rams to focus elsewhere in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.

There are still some needs on the defense, especially with the retirement of Aaron Donald. Even with Kobe Turner looking like a foundational piece, there will need to be more additions on the interior of the defensive line to help make up for the loss of the all-time great.

Likewise, the addition of Tre’Davious White in the secondary should not prevent the Rams from looking to add another cornerback or safety to help bolster up their backend.

The re-signing of Reeder may not be some game-changing move for the Rams, but it certainly provides a bit of insurance and gives them a trusted veteran to have around.

Aaron Donald believes Rams need another edge rusher

The loss of Aaron Donald is one the Rams will feel for some time as he is one of the greatest defensive players in NFL history and there is simply no way of replacing him outright. But Donald still wants to see the Rams prosper and has some ideas on ways they can improve the defense.

On a recent podcast appearance, Donald discussed his belief that the Rams could use another edge rusher to help out in getting to the quarterback. The team added Byron Young in the draft last. year and he turned out to be a major addition, finishing second on the team with eight sacks.

Finding another impact player like that would go a long way towards helping the Rams stay on track and keep building off last year’s success.
