Mayank Yadav: LSG’s New Strength:

His Domestic Career:

Hailing from Delhi, Mayank Yadav is a prominent figure in the domestic cricket circuit. Despite his commendable performance, seizing two crucial wickets during the semi-finals of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2023-2024, his team suffered a defeat at the hands of Punjab. This setback, however, does not diminish Yadav’s talent and contributions to his team’s efforts. His skillful bowling and determination on the field have earned him recognition as a promising cricketer. As he continues to hone his abilities, Yadav remains focused on achieving success both individually and as part of his team in future endeavors.

In his T20 journey, he clinched 12 wickets across 10 matches, showcasing his bowling prowess. Meanwhile, in the List A format, Mayank boasts an impressive record of 34 wickets from 17 matches, highlighting his effectiveness across different formats. These statistics underscore his versatility and impact as a bowler, solidifying his position as a valuable asset for his teams in both T20 and List A cricket.

Mayank’s Lucknow Stint:

Lucknow’s acquisition of Mayank Yadav before the IPL 2022 season marked a strategic move to enhance their bowling arsenal. Known for his expertise in pace bowling, Mayank, born on June 17, 2002, emerged as a promising young cricketer. LSG’s investment in him reflected their eagerness to strengthen their squad with versatile talents.

For Mayank Yadav, joining the IPL represented a significant milestone in his career, offering him a platform to develop his skills alongside seasoned professionals. Purchased by LSG in the 2022 auction for the base price of Rs 20 lakh, the 21-year-old faced replacement by Arpit Guleria due to an injury setback. His debut in IPL 2024, particularly in LSG’s inaugural home match against the Punjab Kings (PBKS), symbolized the beginning of an exciting journey in the league. Fans and experts alike anticipate Mayank’s impact and growth as he embraces the challenges and opportunities that the IPL presents, aiming for a prosperous tenure in the prestigious competition.

His Dreamy IPL Debut:

Instructed to bat first, Krunal Pandya’s dynamic batting towards the end propelled LSG to a competitive total of 199/8. Quinton de Kock, the opener, led the scoring charts with a brisk 38-ball 54. However, it was the cameo from stand-in captain Nicholas Pooran, scoring 42 off 21 balls, that injected vitality into the innings during the middle overs. Krunal’s explosive knock of 43 off 22 deliveries, featuring two sixes and four boundaries, provided additional impetus to LSG’s innings.

In the pursuit, Punjab exhibited solidity until the 11th over. However, Mayank Yadav’s entry in the 12th over marked the commencement of his splendid IPL 2024 debut for Lucknow Super Giants. Yadav showcased his bowling prowess by delivering the fastest ball of this season’s competition, clocking at 155.8 kmph, which posed a significant challenge for Shikhar Dhawan. Ultimately, Yadav’s spell resulted in remarkable figures of 3/27, dismissing key batsmen like Jonny Bairstow, Prabhsimran Singh, and Jitesh Sharma.

These crucial wickets disrupted Punjab’s flow, reducing them from 101/0 to 139/3. Subsequently, Punjab faced further setbacks, plummeting to 141/5 with the loss of two quick wickets, and ended their innings on 178/5. Notably, even in his first over, Yadav’s exceptional pace caused a stir, with speeds touching 150 kmph. His remarkable display included deliveries at 147 kmph, 146 kmph, 150 kmph, 141 kmph, and 149 kmph. Consequently, Mayank Yadav emerged as the bowler with the three fastest balls of IPL 2024, with speeds of 155.8 kph, 153.9 kph, and 153.4 kph, cementing his status as a formidable force in the tournament.

Thanks to Mayank’s stellar bowling performance, Lucknow Super Giants secured a convincing victory over Punjab Kings, triumphing by a margin of 21 runs. Mayank’s exceptional contributions with the ball played a pivotal role in LSG’s success, ensuring that their total was sufficient for the win. This remarkable display propelled LSG to their maiden victory in the IPL, marking a significant milestone for the team in the tournament.

In the post-match about his dreamy debut, Mayank expressed, “Never thought it would be such a good debut. Was nervous before the match. Tried to stick to my pace and aim at the stumps. Was thinking about using slower ones initially, but stuck to the quick ones. First wicket was special. It’s good to debut at such a young age. Had a few goals, but can’t help if injuries come in the way.”

Coach and Captain’s Praise to Mayank:

After seeing Mayank’s excellent spell on debut, LSG bowling coach Morne Morkel said, “Young Mayank bowled serious heat and got the wickets. He ran in and that was the pleasing thing. We asked the guys to do the basics well on a good wicket. Told him to stick to his lengths and use bouncers. Proud he ran in and bowled gas despite the humidity.”

LSG’s today’s skipper Nicholas Pooran said, “Mayank’s was the story of the night. That was an inspiring performance, he (Mayank) is a young guy. He showed the entire world how good he is. He is not only fast, but also is accurate. It’s the beauty of the IPL, gives the local players to perform. Wonderful platform. Every game is an opportunity, expect them to get better with every game.”
