Foremost Golf, the UK’s largest retail and marketing services group, has announced the winners of the prestigious Foremost Golf Industry Member Awards for 2023.

The coveted Foremost Member of the Year was awarded to Paul Thomas of Newport Golf Club. Thomas has been the Head Professional at Newport since 2016, working hand-in-hand with the club to set up the Newport Golf Academy, making huge advances with the practice facilities on site.

“Humbled and honoured were my first reactions to winning the award. To be recognised in that light is something that means a lot to me. I’ll forever be very proud,” Thomas added.

Foremost Golf Managing Director, Andy Martin added: “Paul is an outstanding example of what makes a committed golf professional. His unwavering dedication to his coaching, retail performance and golf club operations shows his desire to always deliver more for his club”.

EMP Member of the Year winners Tim Barnes and Paul Cunningham from Hartford Golf Centre receive their award from Foremost MD Andy Martin

Elite Marketing Programme (EMP) Member of the Year was awarded to the proactive duo of Tim Barnes and Paul Cunningham from Hartford Golf Centre in Northwich.

In his role as Shop Manager, Cunningham maintains a fantastic retail standard and a strong online presence, activating marketing campaigns and promotions in-store. “We’re very proud to be recognised, we got nominated last year as well” Cunningham added. “I could see the benefits of social media marketing and the retail Hot Spot; when it comes to the EMP, you get out as much as you put in. We work hard at it.”

As Director of Golf, Tim Barnes adopts a forward-thinking, hands-on approach to his role. “So many people have got into golf recently and we didn’t want to get complacent”, added Barnes. “We’ve offered a range of activities and flexible membership options for years now. New golfers are going to start their journey with progressive clubs like ours.”

Breakthrough Member of the Year was awarded to Chris Coles, Head Pro at Saltford Golf Club

Breakthrough Member of the Year was awarded to Chris Coles, Head Professional at Saltford Golf Club. The award acknowledges significant recent developments in his business. Coles has excelled in the role, coordinating a great retail operation and golf club community for his customers.

“I’m ecstatic to have received this award. Building a supportive team around me was crucial,” said Coles. “It’s fantastic to share the same vision with Saltford Golf Club and to know we are both aligned in our direction.”

Ian Melham, Head of Foremost Golf’s Member Services, added: “This year we have recognised very worthy winners of the Foremost member awards, each showing a passion for providing the best service for their members. They are well-equipped to provide the best service for their clubs going forward.”
